Campazas
Village
Campazas is a village of about 110 inhabitants at 770 metres altitude, in the León district of Esla-Campos, between Valencia de Don Juan and Valderas; its name gave its surname to the protagonist of Fray Gerundio de Campazas, the satire by the Jesuit José Francisco de Isla. It lives off wheat and barley farming and sheep, pig and cattle raising, and preserves as its main monument the church of Nuestra Señora la Blanca, alongside a hermitage, the old railway station and the forge. It celebrates the Virgen de la Candelaria on 2 February and San Antonio de Padua on 13 June, and since the Cofradía del Cristo de la Vera Cruz was re-established in 2005, it has organised processions.
