What to see and do in La Antigua

La Antigua
Village
La Antigua is a municipality in the El Páramo comarca, in the province of León, with about 325 inhabitants spread across five settlements on a flat relief barely broken by isolated hills: besides La Antigua itself, Audanzas del Valle, Cazanuecos, Grajal de Ribera and Ribera de la Polvorosa. It belonged to the old Jurisdicción de Laguna de Negrillos. Alongside its agricultural economy, rain-fed in the lower area, there is a smoked-salmon industry, La Balinesa, set up in La Antigua's old mill. Several streams and minor rivers in the municipality flow into the Esla or the Órbigo. The festivities are held on 8 and 9 September, in honour of the Nativity of Mary.
Festivities of la Natividad de La Antigua
Activity
On 8 and 9 September the municipality celebrates the nativity of Mary, bringing together the people of its five villages: La Antigua, Audanzas del Valle, Cazanuecos, Grajal de Ribera and Ribera de la Polvorosa.
Smoked salmon of the old mill
Food and drink
A fish-processing business devoted above all to smoked salmon was set up in the building of the village's old mill, an unexpected activity in a farming municipality out on the plain of the Páramo.
