What to see and do in Chozas de Abajo

Chozas de Abajo
Village
Chozas de Abajo is a municipality in the Páramo Leonés, seventeen kilometres from the capital, which brings together nine settlements — Antimio de Arriba, Ardoncino, Banuncias, Cembranos, Chozas de Abajo, Chozas de Arriba, Méizara, Mozóndiga and Villar de Mazarife — with a little over 2,700 inhabitants altogether. The relief, typical of the León páramo, is crossed by streams and dotted with small lagoons, with altitudes ranging from 840 to 905 metres. Unlike other municipalities in the comarca, in recent decades it has gained population thanks to its closeness to León and housing prices lower than in the capital, which has turned it into a commuter municipality for a good many of its residents, who work in the León metropolitan area.

Nature
The district, a typical Leonese moorland crossed by a few streams, preserves small pools scattered across the territory between the 905 metres of the north-west and the 840 of the south-east, refuges for amphibians and waterbirds.
