What to see and do in Santovenia de la Valdoncina

Santovenia de la Valdoncina
Village
Santovenia de la Valdoncina is a municipality in the province of León, in Castilla y León, located nine kilometers from the provincial capital, in the district of La Valdoncina, to which it belonged as part of the old Hermandad de Valdoncina. It has about 2,060 inhabitants spread across five villages, among them Villacedré, Ribaseca, Quintana de Raneros and Villanueva del Carnero, in addition to Santovenia itself. Until the municipal naming reform of 1916 the municipality was called simply Santovenia, a name to which that of the district was then added. The territory, a plateau with moorland and rises such as the Las Naves hill, is watered by streams that feed the Bernesga, such as the Oncina and the Fontanillas.
