What to see and do in Sobrado

Sobrado
Village
Sobrado is a municipality in the comarca of El Bierzo, in the province of León, situated on the banks of the río Selmo, at the bottom of a valley surrounded by orchards, fruit trees and chestnut woods that rises to 1,107 metres in the sierra de la Encina de la Lastra, a refuge for wolves, roe deer and other wildlife. Its founding dates back to the Middle Ages, when the municipality's localities became part of the Kingdom of León within the Tierra de Friera and the Merindad de Aguiar, and Sobrado was known as Sobrado de Aguiar; King Alfonso IX granted a charter in 1206 to its locality of Friera. Some authors place the Monte Medulio here, near the village of Cabarcos. The río Selmo, with its abundant flow, once powered forges along its course. It has about 275 inhabitants.
