What to see and do in Riocavado de la Sierra

Riocavado de la Sierra
Village
Riocavado de la Sierra is a hamlet of 54 inhabitants in the comarca of Sierra de la Demanda, in the province of Burgos, situated at 1,180 metres on the southern slope of the Manquillo pass, which separates the basins of the Arlanza and Arlanzón rivers; the latter rises precisely within its territory. The first historical reference to the place dates from 1028, when the queen of Navarre held an estate there over which she exercised a kind of lordship; the village had probably been born in the early 10th century, in the resettlement process of the county of Lara. It preserves a 12th-century Romanesque church, next to which grew the famous elm of Riocavado, today marked with a sign. Through its territory runs the greenway of the Sierra de la Demanda, along the route of the old mining railway.
