Campolara
Village
Campolara is a hamlet of 46 inhabitants in the Burgos comarca of Sierra de la Demanda, centred on Salas de los Infantes, in the lands of the old alfoz of Lara. South of the village a dehesa of Pyrenean oak spreads out, along with maples, junipers, savins, hawthorns and blackthorns, whose pastures are used by cattle under an extensive grazing regime and whose firewood and game are also exploited. In 1555 a villager, Francisco de Mena, brought a lawsuit over hidalgo status. Campolara celebrates its patron saint, Saint Catherine, on 25 November.
