Jurisdicción de Lara
Village
Jurisdicción de Lara is a municipality of 39 inhabitants in the Burgos Sierra de la Demanda, with its seat in the town of Lara de los Infantes and also made up of the villages of Aceña de Lara, Paúles de Lara and Vega de Lara. Its name recalls the old alfoz of Lara, a historic jurisdiction of the partido of Can de Muñó which came to group together the town of Lara and fourteen places — among them Cubillo del César, Quintanilla de las Viñas or Villoruebo — broken up after the fall of the Ancien Régime among the present-day municipalities of Los Ausines, Mambrillas de Lara, Revilla del Campo, Salas de los Infantes and Villoruebo. Since the 1940s it has suffered a sharp loss of population through emigration to Burgos and Madrid, down to its present figures.
The legend of the Seven Princes of Lara
Curiosity
From these lands came one of the great Castilian epic legends: seven brothers betrayed by their uncle Ruy Velázquez and beheaded by the Muslims. Menéndez Pidal reconstructed the lost poem from the ballads and the chronicles.
