La Sequera de Haza
Village
La Sequera de Haza is a hamlet in the comarca of Ribera del Duero, in the province of Burgos, situated at 850 metres above sea level in the narrow valley of the río Viejo, at the foot of the páramo de Corcos. The village is divided into two areas around the church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora, and preserves the ruins of the ermita de San Nicolás and its necropolis. It belonged to the former Community of Villa and Tierra of Aza, under the lordship jurisdiction of the Count of Miranda, and in the mid-19th century had 130 recorded inhabitants. Its scant social life centres on the plaza mayor, where a long-lived mulberry tree grows, a symbol of the village: in winter it shrinks to Mass and the bar on the square, and in August it fills up with natives returning home. It has 28 inhabitants.
