What to see and do in Santa Cruz del Valle Urbión

Santa Cruz del Valle Urbión
Village
Santa Cruz del Valle Urbión is a municipality in the Montes de Oca district, in the judicial district of Briviesca, province of Burgos; within its boundaries rises the Torruco-San Millán peak, the highest point in the province, and here rises the río Urbión, which gives it its name. It has 94 inhabitants. It is already recorded as Sancta Crux del Valle among the hamlets of the alfoz of Cerezo in the charter that Alfonso VII granted to Cerezo de Río Tirón in 1146. In the 12th century its inhabitants had the recognised right to express themselves in Basque before the merinos mayores of Castile, a legacy of the resettlement of Basque people in the sierra de la Demanda. The municipality has the church of the Asunción and, in Soto del Valle, that of San Pedro Apóstol; its pilgrimage to San Millán is celebrated on 16 June.
