What to see and do in San Vicente del Valle

San Vicente del Valle
Village
San Vicente del Valle is a municipality in the province of Burgos with 26 inhabitants, in the Montes de Oca district, which also includes the villages of Espinosa del Monte and San Clemente del Valle, in the upper valley of the river Tirón, facing the north side of the sierra de la Demanda. Settlers took refuge in these high valleys from the invasions that swept the plain, preserving an indigenous cultural substrate; its church, dedicated to the Asunción de Nuestra Señora and today dependent on the parish of Fresneda de la Sierra Tirón, retains elements of Visigothic origin from the 6th century, evidence of the antiquity of this settlement. At the fall of the Ancien Régime it became a municipality of the Belorado district, with barely 70 inhabitants at the time.
The early medieval church of la Asunción
Monument
In the early Middle Ages it was the monastery of Santa María del Valle. The building, perhaps of late Roman origin, was transformed into a church around the year 900 and preserves paired windows with horseshoe arches on columns with capital and impost.
