Rábanos
Village
Rábanos is a municipality in the comarca of Montes de Oca, in the province of Burgos, located 40 kilometres east of the capital, in the judicial district of Briviesca. It brings together 73 inhabitants in three settlements — Rábanos, Alarcia and Villamudria — which were incorporated into the municipality in the 1857 census along with the depopulated site of Ahedillo. It retains the Catholic church of San Esteban Protomártir, whose patron's festival is celebrated on 3 August, as well as a communal wash-house and oven and a monumental beech tree known as el Haya de los Corrales. In late August the Fiestas de Gracias are also celebrated.
The Oca river, the Ebro's first tributary
Nature
The Oca rises in the sierra above Rábanos and comes down from south to north over seventy kilometres as far as Oña, where it delivers its waters to the Ebro: it is the first tributary that the great river receives from its source.
