What to see and do in Valle de Tobalina

Valle de Tobalina
Village
Valle de Tobalina is a municipality of the Las Merindades comarca, province of Burgos, with its seat at Quintana-Martín Galíndez, where the Salazar tower stands; it has about 875 inhabitants. It stretches along the Ebro valley, between the sierras of Arcena and Pancorbo, as far as the so-called Fondón de Tobalina, next to the Sobrón gorge, where the reservoir of the same name now lies, and through which the gorge of the río Purón also runs. The valley was invaded by the Muslims in the 8th century, and its Christian resettlement is documented from the year 852, with the founding of the church of San Martín de Herrán; from 860 onward it fell under the seigneury of Count Rodrigo, as a border zone of the County of Castile bristling with fortresses facing the Saracens.
