What to see and do in Padrones de Bureba

Padrones de Bureba
Village
Padrones de Bureba is a municipality of Burgos province, situated in the Valle de las Caderechas, at the foot of the Altotero, which reaches 1,176 metres. Already documented in 1156 in a parchment of the monastery of San Salvador de Oña, it was a town of the cuadrilla of Caderechas within the Merindad de Bureba; like most Castilian villages, it suffered heavy depopulation from 1960 onward, when many residents emigrated to the city of Burgos and to Greater Bilbao, and today it has 49 inhabitants. Its church of San Mamés had a Gothic altarpiece, now in the Museo del Retablo in Burgos, and it preserves two hermitages dedicated to Santa Olalla and San Martín. The comarca, with mountainous terrain covered in holm oaks, oaks and pines, is famous for its native cherries and apples.

Nature
Set between the plain of the Bureba and the Montes Obarenes, the valley combines altitude, limestone soils and an inland climate that give its fruit trees a late ripening and a very marked acidity.
