Llano de Bureba
Village
Llano de Bureba is a municipality of 45 inhabitants in the comarca of La Bureba (Burgos), which also includes the village of Movilla and the former farmstead of El Moscadero. It was called Solas de Bureba until 1948, when it changed its name to avoid confusion with neighbouring Salas de Bureba. Count Sancho García donated it, with its two churches of San Martín and San Juan, to the monastery of Oña, under whose lordship it remained until 1739, when Philip V granted it the title of town in exchange for a high price. Its economy has been based on cereal farming; in the mid-20th century, agricultural mechanisation caused a strong exodus towards Bilbao and Burgos. On a nearby hillside, about 500 metres from the village, old family wine cellars are preserved where chacolí wine was made.
