Carcedo de Bureba
Village
Carcedo de Bureba is a municipality in the province of Burgos, in the judicial district of Briviesca and the comarca of Bureba, with 36 inhabitants in a municipal area of 42.45 km² made up of Carcedo — its capital —, Arconada and Quintana-Urria, as well as the depopulated village of Valdearnedo. It was a crown town of the cuadrilla de Rojas, one of the seven into which the old merindad de Bureba was divided, with its own local deputy mayor; when the Ancien Régime fell it became a constitutional municipality with 62 inhabitants. Ruperto García Arce (1908–1936) was born here, a religious of the Brothers of the Christian Schools known as Brother Florencio Miguel, beatified in Rome in 2007 along with 498 other victims of the religious persecution during the Civil War.
