What to see and do in Rojas

Rojas
Village
Rojas is a municipality in the comarca of Bureba, in the judicial district of Briviesca, province of Burgos, formed by Rojas and Quintanilla cabe Rojas, next to the sanctuary of Santa Casilda; it has 62 inhabitants. It gave its name to the cuadrilla of Rojas, one of the seven into which the old Merindad de Bureba was divided, and to an influential Castilian lineage. On 9 April it celebrates the feast of Santa Casilda with mass and procession, and the patronal festivities of San Andrés are held on the second weekend of September. The parish church of San Andrés Apóstol, in the archpriestship of Oca-Tirón, also has under it the localities of Movilla, Piérnigas, Quintanabureba and Quintana-Urria.
The seven cuadrillas of the Merindad de Bureba
Curiosity
Rojas gave its name to one of the seven cuadrillas into which the Merindad de Bureba was divided, together with that of Santa María Ribarredonda and five others. From that medieval division the map of the present villages still lives.
