Hurones
Village
Hurones is a hamlet in the Alfoz de Burgos district, eleven kilometres from the capital and 930 metres in altitude, near the Atapuerca sites. A Roman road crosses its territory which, alongside the Las Mijaradas farm —today home to a golf course—, crosses the river Morquillas on its way to Burgos; a Roman site with coins from the 2nd and 3rd centuries has also been found. With 59 inhabitants, its church of Santiago Apóstol, built in the first decades of the 13th century by the Romanesque school of La Bureba, preserves the single nave topped with a semicircular apse. The patronal feast is on 25 July.
