Merindad de Río Ubierna
Village
Merindad de Río Ubierna is a municipality of the Alfoz de Burgos comarca, with its town hall in the settlement of Sotopalacios, formed in the 1970s by the merger of some twenty villages of the Ubierna valley, among them Hontomín, Masa, Quintanarruz and the town of Ubierna itself. The latter was resettled in the year 884, the same year in which the city of Burgos was founded, both the work of Count Diego Rodríguez; the Anales Castellanos place the event in 882, although later attacks by the Emirate of Córdoba delayed its consolidation until 884. The municipality, which came close to 1500 inhabitants in 2016, now has around 1400 and has become the third most populous in the Burgos metropolitan area.
