Cogollos
Village
Cogollos is a municipality in the comarca of Alfoz de Burgos, eighteen kilometres from the provincial capital of Burgos, crossed by the Autovía del Norte, on the way to the lands of the Arlanza. Its terrain, typical of the Castilian high plateau, rises in scattered hills exceeding 900 metres, and the village stands beside the river Cogollos at an altitude of 892 metres. It has 687 inhabitants and two quarters, that of San Pedro and that of San Román, which gives its name to the municipality's other church, today deconsecrated, next to the parish church of San Pedro. Between the mid-19th century and 1989 it had a Guardia Civil barracks, one of the oldest posts in the province.
