Carcedo de Burgos
Village
Carcedo de Burgos is a municipality of 25.68 km² in the comarca of Alfoz de Burgos, to which the village of Modúbar de la Cuesta belongs. Its name is thought to come from the Berzal oak wood, a forest with centuries-old trees whose Latin name, Quercus, gave rise to the place name Karceto; there the Balde Olmos spring rises, near which ponds for amphibians have been restored, and since 2013, after wind turbines were installed, also the Carcedo lagoons, turned into a watering place for steppe species. Under the Ancien Régime it was an abbatial holding dependent on the Benedictine monastery of San Pedro de Cardeña, which appointed its pedáneo mayor. It now has 513 inhabitants.
