Puentedura
Village
Puentedura is a municipality of 117 inhabitants in the Arlanza comarca, in Burgos, spread across three settlements alongside the road linking Lerma with Covarrubias. Its name comes from the seven-arch bridge crossing the Arlanza river, already documented in 1125 as a simple road crossing. The hermitage of San Millán holds 17th-century paintings depicting the Last Supper and a 13th-century Christ figure; its Romanesque carving of the Virgin and Child, from the second half of the 12th century, is now displayed at the Museu Frederic Marès in Barcelona. Its patronal festivities honour San Jorge (St George) on 23 April, and the Virgen del Camino, in September.
