Nebreda
Village
Nebreda is a town in the Arlanza comarca, in the province of Burgos, with 50 inhabitants, located 12 kilometres from Lerma and 50 from the city of Burgos. It is surrounded by the most extensive and best-preserved juniper woodlands (sabinares) in the world, with specimens over two thousand years old, as well as junipers, holm oaks and pines through which roe deer, wild boar, Bonelli's eagles and kites move. Less than two kilometres away operates a feeding station (muladar) where griffon vultures feed, along with the occasional cinereous vulture from the Sierra de la Demanda. The writer Azorín recounted the life of the village in a short story published in 1909 in the Diario de Barcelona. Its main monument is the church of the Natividad de Nuestra Señora, whose feast day is celebrated on 8 September.
