Mamblas
Village
Mamblas is a village of 191 inhabitants situated on flat land watered by the Zapardiel river, in the comarca of La Moraña, province of Ávila, at 819 metres above sea level. Its name comes from the Latin mammulas, diminutive of mamma, nipple, a very expressive name common in the Iberian Peninsula, in Sardinia and in North Africa; there is also a hamlet of the same name in the province of Zaragoza. In the mid-19th century the place had 391 recorded inhabitants, double today's. It has a church under the invocation of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and its own heraldic coat of arms and flag, approved on 28 January 2005.
