Cabezas del Pozo
Village
Cabezas del Pozo is a village of about 80 inhabitants at 843 metres, in the north of the province of Ávila, within the district of La Moraña, to which it historically belonged as a hamlet of the Tierra de Arévalo. It owes its name to Cabezas, for being the main place, and to a mudéjar well held to be one of the oldest in the district and possibly its largest construction of this kind, destroyed in 1982. It preserves Renaissance houses and a Baroque church of the 16th century with mudéjar elements from an earlier building. The village, which once had carpentry shops, shoemakers, smithies and pharmacies, today has a gap, a bar and a sociocultural association, ASCAP, which organises activities to promote popular culture. It celebrates its feast on 25 July, for Santiago.
