What to see and do in Horcajo de las Torres

Horcajo de las Torres
Village
Horcajo de las Torres is a town in the province of Ávila, in the district of La Moraña, situated beside the course of the Trabancos river, which passes between the sites of las Cañadas and los Carcabones, at an altitude of 820 metres and with an extreme climate typical of the plateau. It lies 80 kilometres from the provincial capital and is linked to Madrigal de las Altas Torres, 8 kilometres away. Its palace features on the Route of Charles V. On 5 January, the local bullfighting association holds what is held to be the first encierro of the year in the region, ahead of the feast of San Julián y Santa Basilisa on the 9th; on 15 May San Isidro is honoured and on the last weekend of August, Nuestra Señora del Horcajuelo. It now has about 425 inhabitants, against the 490 it had in the mid-19th century.
