El Bohodón
Village
El Bohodón is a town in the district of La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, with about 104 inhabitants, watered by the Adaja and Arevalillo rivers and crossed by the Camino de Santiago de Levante. In 1504, according to tradition, the funeral cortege of Isabella the Catholic passed through these lands, on its way to Granada after her death at Medina del Campo. Its church, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and formerly called Santa María la Mayor del Castillo, crowns the highest part of the village; rebuilt and decorated in the 18th century, it preserves beside its door a stone cross set up in 1725. Nearby, ruins known as Las Torrebanas recall, according to local tradition, an ancient palace.
