What to see and do in Tiñosillos

Tiñosillos
Village
A town in the comarca of La Moraña, in Ávila, situated at 867 m above sea level; it has about 732 inhabitants. Its place name, related to others such as Las Tiñosillas or Tiñosa Alta y Baja, comes from the Latin tineŏsu, 'scrawny, mangy, poor'. In the 13th century it was a settlement of little importance, and in the mid-19th century Madoz counted 139 inhabitants there. It was one of the most productive pottery centres in the province, with as many as thirty potteries making jugs and vessels by the late 1930s. It celebrates the Virgen del Rosario on the first Sunday of October and San Marcos on 25 April, as well as the Pascuas Rosquilleras of Holy Week, organised by the village's quintos (young conscripts).

Curiosity
Until the nineteen thirties some thirty potteries were working in the village, making pitchers, kitchen pieces and large storage jars; pottery was for generations the trade that identified this municipality of the countryside.
