What to see and do in Sotillo de la Adrada

Sotillo de la Adrada
Village
Sotillo de la Adrada is a town of about 5081 inhabitants, the one with the most services and commerce in the upper Tiétar valley, in the province of Ávila. It sits on a plain close to the source of the Tiétar river, in the eastern massif of the sierra de Gredos, surrounded by the municipalities of Santa María del Tiétar, Casillas, El Barraco, La Adrada, Fresnedilla and Higuera de las Dueñas. Its houses line the CL-501 road, a continuation of what is known as the carretera de los Pantanos, which begins in Madrid and reaches as far as Cáceres; this road, the valley's main artery, concentrates businesses and homes and carries up to 20,000 vehicles a day in the summer months.
Church of la Santísima Trinidad
Monument
Of 15th-century origin, it preserves over the nave a Mudéjar coffered ceiling dated 1700. It is the principal building of a villa that had its own council from 1571 and obtained the title of villa from Felipe IV in 1642.
Spring of los Cinco Caños
Monument
Built in 1754, this five-spouted fountain supplied the residents for centuries and is still a meeting point of the old quarter, next to the old town hall with 18th-century stone arcades.
The pools of El Borbollón
Nature
Beside the Mañas spring, these pools of the stream are the municipality's natural bathing place, at 635 metres of altitude, at the point where the foothills of Gredos drop towards the floor of the Tiétar valley.
