What to see and do in Fresnedilla

Fresnedilla
Village
Fresnedilla is a hamlet in the province of Ávila situated in the Tiétar valley, although its lands are not reached by the river's irrigation, at 622 metres above sea level, with 92 inhabitants and the demonym fresnedillero. Together with La Adrada and the rest of the hamlets of the lordship of the same name — Casillas, Casavieja, La Iglesuela, Piedralaves and Sotillo — it came under the control of Beltrán de la Cueva after the fall of the constable Álvaro de Luna in 1453. In 1886 the painter Eduardo Martínez Vázquez was born in the village. It preserves the church dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Purificación, and holds its patronal festivals in honour of San Antonio de Padua, on the second Sunday of June, and of the Virgen del Rosario, on the first Sunday of October.
The passing of Fresnedilla to the Alburquerque family
Historical milestone
After the fall and execution of don Álvaro de Luna, the place passed into the hands of Beltrán de la Cueva, future duke of Alburquerque. In the middle of the 19th century it barely gathered 184 inhabitants and today it does not reach a hundred.
