What to see and do in Navahondilla

Navahondilla
Village
Navahondilla is a municipality situated at the start of the sierra de Gredos, in the province of Ávila, with an irregular terrain that rises to 1320 metres in the north and which the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental crosses in the south; it has 359 inhabitants, against the 143 recorded in the mid-19th century. Probably first settled by the Vettones, whose testimony is the nearby Toros de Guisando, it was founded after the reconquest of the area by Alfonso VI and recorded in a document of Alfonso X dated 1261. It belonged to the province of Toledo, under the jurisdictions of Escalona and Cadalso, until a royal decree made it a municipality of Ávila province on 30 November 1833. Its mountains of chestnut, oak and pine, with dehesas of good pasture, still shelter wild boar.
