What to see and do in Domingo Pérez

Domingo Pérez
Village
Domingo Pérez is a municipality of Torrijos, in the province of Toledo, in a valley that is flat except for a small rise to the east, bordering Otero, Santa Olalla, Erustes, Cebolla and Illán de Vacas. Its name recalls a settler cited forty-two times in Toledan Mozarab documents of the 12th-13th centuries. Founded after the 1083 reconquest as an alquería of the Señorío de Santa Olalla, it passed in 1205 to Pedro Fernández de Castro and later to the lords of Orgaz, a title their heirs received as a county in 1529 from Charles V. It obtained the title of town in 1669, recalled by a granite pillar of justice; its church of the Purísima Concepción, with three naves and a Baroque altarpiece, is rural Mudéjar, and it preserves the hermitage of the Virgen del Prado (1636-1640), with an image from the early 16th century.
Church of la Purísima Concepción de Domingo Pérez
Monument
Church with three naves and a baroque altarpiece, built in a style described as rural Mudejar, characteristic of the area. It has a three-sided polygonal apse, granite columns with Ionic capitals, and brick arches. Among its most valuable features are the silverwork, the religious imagery, the organ, the Mudejar coffered ceiling and the baroque altarpiece of the high altar, decorated with Talavera ceramics, as well as the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, covered by a dome with plaster rosettes.
Hermitage of la Virgen del Prado de Domingo Pérez
Monument
The hermitage of Our Lady of the Meadow in Domingo Pérez was built on the site of an old humilladero (a roadside shrine) at the entrance to the village; work began in 1636 and finished in 1640, and the first mass was celebrated on 7 October 1646. It is rectangular in plan, with a single nave and side entrances, covered by a par-y-nudillo timber ceiling with ten transverse ties and one in each corner. It houses an image of the Virgin from the early 16th century, older than the hermitage itself, set in an altarpiece by Juan Fernández the younger, architect of Cebolla. It also preserves images of Saint Isidore the Farmer, Saint Gemma and Saint Louis Gonzaga, and was restored in 1996.
The Justice Pillar of Domingo Pérez
Monument
Rollo de justicia of Domingo Pérez (Toledo), in the Torrijos district. Of simple construction, it consists of a base on which rises a tall, slender column with a plain shaft topped by a moulding, all of it carved in granite stone. It symbolises the status of a town with its own jurisdiction that the locality obtained in 1669, the year to which the work is attributed. Until the 1990s it stood in the centre of the square, where it also served as a lamppost and as a base for the orchestra's platform during festivities; today it stands facing the church façade.
