What to see and do in Otero

Otero
Village
Otero is a municipality in the Torrijos comarca, in the province of Toledo, whose name derives from the Latin altārĭum, ‘isolated hill overlooking a plain’. It is set on the slope of a stream and borders El Casar de Escalona, Hormigos, Santa Olalla and other municipalities of the comarca. It was one of the nine hamlets granted in 1399 by Alvar Pérez de Guzmán y Orozco, lord of Orgaz, and it belonged to that lordship, depending on Santa Olalla until it obtained the title of town in 1669. Traditionally agricultural, it grew cereals, pulses, wine and olive oil. It today has around 436 inhabitants. Its main historic building is the parish church of la Purísima Concepción, accompanied by a pyramidal, circular-based rollo de justicia, built of brick on a stone foundation.
