What to see and do in Sotillo de las Palomas

Sotillo de las Palomas
Village
Sotillo de las Palomas is a municipality in the Sierra de San Vicente comarca (Toledo), with 184 inhabitants (INE 2025), surrounded by Mediterranean woodland of pines, junipers, poplars and holm oaks and bathed by the river Guadyerbas. It was part of the marquisal lordship of Navamorcuende until, in 1546, a lawsuit won by its residents recognised their use of the communal pasture, the vineyards and the ejido, and in 1692 it obtained the rank of town with its own jurisdiction. Its main historic building is the parish church of the Concepción, next to an old watchtower integrated into the defensive line that ran along the sierra. Its notable feast is that of San Sebastián, with the distribution of aniseed rolls, a procession, the blessing of food and a bonfire of cork-oak wood.
