What to see and do in Cobisa

Cobisa
Village
Cobisa is a municipality of Montes de Toledo, in the province of Toledo, with 4,550 inhabitants (INE 2025), on undulating land bordering Burguillos de Toledo, Layos and Argés. Its name may derive from the Arabic qúbba, 'vault, dome', and the village grew out of the hamlets used during working seasons by the people of Toledo: first Cobisa de Abajo was formed, abandoned due to health problems, and its inhabitants moved to Cobisa de Arriba. It is mentioned in Toledan Mozarabic documents from 1175 onwards, attesting to the continuity of the population after the Christian conquest of Toledo. Its parish church of San Felipe y Santiago Apóstol was conceived as a convent in the 18th century and was restored in 1942 after damage from the Civil War, retaining its original bell-gable.
