Congostrina
Village
Congostrina is a municipality in the northern sierra of Guadalajara with barely 18 inhabitants (INE 2025); in the mid-19th century it had as many as 220. It preserves the church of la Asunción de Nuestra Señora, built in the 16th century over the ruins of an earlier temple, and the hermitage of la Soledad. During the Spanish Civil War, Moroccan troops of the rebel side and Italian soldiers were billeted in the village. The town is mentioned in the first paragraph of the novel El Jarama, by Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio.
