What to see and do in Arroyo de las Fraguas

Arroyo de las Fraguas
Village
Arroyo de las Fraguas is a small municipality of the Serranía de Guadalajara, at 1,216 metres above sea level, with barely 32 inhabitants and a direct bus connection to Madrid. Its economy depends above all on pensions and the primary sector, with cattle, small vegetable gardens, beehives and, in mushroom season, the gathering of porcini and saffron milk caps. It preserves the church of the Purísima Concepción, next to the Taligüela hill, and celebrates its feasts from 15 to 17 August in honour of the Virgin and San Roque, with a popular beef caldereta, brass band and processions. In the early hours of the 16th the young people go round the village singing rondas with traditional instruments, and the residents give them rosquillas and liqueurs.
