What to see and do in Saelices de la Sal

Saelices de la Sal
Village
Saelices de la Sal is a municipality in the district of the Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, with 41 inhabitants (INE 2025), which owes its name and its livelihood to the salinas de San Juan, evaporation beds fed by springs of brackish water that Madoz described in the mid-19th century, when the village had 126 inhabitants, as its main industry. Until the reform of municipal nomenclature in 1916 the municipality was called simply Saelices, the year in which it adopted its present name. In the 19th century its territory was also noted for its woods of holm oak and oak. Recovered as heritage, the salinas continue to produce a fine-grained flake salt in summer.

Food and drink
The brine from the springs is still evaporated in the sun in beds of wood and stone to obtain a fine-grained flake salt. It is a seasonal product, tied to the dry summer, which is sold at the saltworks itself and in shops of the comarca.
