Cobeta
Village
Cobeta is a small municipality in the comarca of Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, situated on the banks of the río Arandilla, among pine and juniper woods, with barely 100 inhabitants. It belonged to the lordship of the marquis of Baides, count of Salvatierra; in 1293 Infanta Blanca granted it to the Cistercian nuns of the monastery of Buenafuente, a donation confirmed by Queen María in 1304. In the 15th century, disputes over the lordship led the nuns to exchange Cobeta, together with el Villar and la Olmeda, for the village of Ciruelos. It preserves Cobeta castle, the parish church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora and the hermitages of San Antonio de Padua and Nuestra Señora del Montesino, whose sanctuary holds its main pilgrimage on 8 September.
