Paracuellos, also called Paracuellos de la Vega, is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, which includes the former hamlets of Huércemes and Casas de Don Diego and has 105 inhabitants (2025). It is the last stage of the Alicante branch of the Camino de Santiago de la Lana before it joins the route at Monteagudo de las Salinas. It is crossed by the Arroyo de la Virgen stream, which rises in Almodóvar del Pinar and flows into the Guadazaón. Its castle, of Andalusi origin and dated to the 12th century, was granted by Alfonso VIII to the bishop of Cuenca in 1187 and declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 1992. It also preserves the 18th-century parish church of Santiago Apóstol, and the hermitages of the Virgen de Gracia and the Concepción.
