Monteagudo de las Salinas
Village
Monteagudo de las Salinas is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, with 126 inhabitants (2025), 47 km from the provincial capital; the Guadazaón river marks the boundary with neighbouring Arguisuelas. Known for the exploitation of salt from a saline spring, an activity that gave it its added surname in 1916, in the 19th century part of its municipal area was covered with maritime pine, junipers, kermes oak and holm oak, and in 1360 it was a manor of the Villodre family. It preserves the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and, on a hill, the ruins of a castle of Andalusi period that Alfonso VIII granted to the Bishop of Cuenca in 1187.
