Enguídanos
Village
Enguídanos is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the eastern part of the province of Cuenca, with 275 inhabitants, situated at an average altitude of 774 metres. Its roots lie in the Celtiberian sites of the Cerro de Cabeza Moya; in the 11th century the Arabs built its castle-fortress, conquered a century later by Alfonso VIII of Castile, the same king who reconquered Cuenca in 1177. It received the status of villa in 1555, after having been a village dependent on Cuenca. On the hill stands the castle of Islamic origin, and in the village the 16th-century church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, while the Cabriel river forms in the municipal area the Chorreras del Cabriel, waterfalls and pools of crystal-clear water declared a natural monument in 2019.
