What to see and do in Villamayor de Santiago

Villamayor de Santiago
Village
A municipality in La Mancha Conquense, in Cuenca, almost on the border with Toledo, at a natural crossroads between the Alcarria de Cela, the Serranía de Cuenca and the Cervantine Mancha. It belonged to the Order of Santiago, whose cross appears on its coat of arms and flag, and its circular, irregular street layout betrays its medieval past. It preserves the church of la Asunción, from the 15th to 17th centuries, with a stone baptismal font; a Renaissance town hall with wooden coffered ceilings; the palace of the Comendadores; and, in the Plaza del Torreón, remains of the fortress wall destroyed by the marquis of Villena. The El Labrador windmill houses an ethnographic museum, and its cheese-makers produce manchego cheese under a denomination of origin. It has 2,336 inhabitants (INE 2025).
