Hontanaya
Village
Hontanaya is a municipality in the comarca of La Mancha Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, set at the foot of the Sierra Jarameña (whose highest point, La Cruz, reaches 1,050 metres), in the lower Mancha and already on the border with the province of Toledo; it has 255 inhabitants. Its main festivities, in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro, are held from 22 to 26 September: on the 14th the patron's image is carried from its hermitage to the church of San Pedro for a novena that culminates on the 23rd with the great procession, after the reception of the brass band, the naming of the Ladies and Queens and the opening speech; the young people then run through the streets on horseback until the fireworks in the plaza de la Constitución.
