What to see and do in Horcajo de Santiago

Horcajo de Santiago
Village
Horcajo de Santiago is a municipality in La Mancha Conquense, in Cuenca, whose old quarter sits on a rise that descends toward two valleys watered by the Cantarranas and Albardana streams. Its surname comes from having belonged to the jurisdiction of the Order of Santiago, headquartered in neighbouring Uclés. Its September fair arose in the 18th century after the appearance of an image of the Santísimo Cristo de los Aparecidos in the parish church, which led Philip V to grant the privilege of holding free fairs; today it includes open-air dances, bullfighting events and a craft fair. The most characteristic celebration remains the Vítor, December patronal festivities in honour of the Inmaculada Concepción, during which a standard is carried through the streets. It has 3,894 inhabitants.
