Pozorrubio de Santiago
Village
Pozorrubio de Santiago is a municipality in the comarca of La Mancha Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, with 307 inhabitants (INE 2025) over 44.66 km². Around the place known as Pozo de la Celadilla there existed an Iberian settlement of the 3rd century BC, later Romanised and cited in the work Divisio Mundi as Pateus Altus, a stop on the Roman road between Laminium and Segóbriga; in the Cueva de los Moros remains of a Roman villa have been found. On top of this settlement, the Order of Santiago founded in the 13th century the commandery that gives the village its name. Its parish church of Santiago Apóstol was consecrated in 1578 and rebuilt in the 18th century after damage from the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, and the territory preserves the house-convent of Torrelengua.
