Monreal del Llano
Village
Monreal del Llano is a municipality in the comarca of La Mancha Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, with 44 inhabitants, set at 735 metres above sea level on a plain dotted with isolated hills, such as that of San Benito (783 m) or that of las Atalayas (784 m); the Monreal river crosses the territory toward the Saona, creating a vega used for farming. It was called simply Monreal until the 1916 reform of the place-name register. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the hermitage of San Benito Abad — whose patron is celebrated on 11 July — and the La Torrecilla archaeological site. Its other festivities are held on the weekend closest to 21 March and between 27 and 31 August or the first weekend of September.
