Honrubia
Village
Honrubia is a municipality in the comarca of La Mancha Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, set on flat ground at 817 metres above sea level, beside the A-3 motorway between Madrid and Valencia, with a population of 1,529. Its name comes from the Latin Font-rubia, after an old spring, now vanished, and the fertility of the land between the Júcar and Rus rivers. First recorded in a 1184 document listing the hamlets of the alfoz of Alarcón, it preserves the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and around 1720 the Santo Rostro hermitage was built, the town's patron and the devotion around which its festivities revolve.
