El Cañavate
Village
El Cañavate is a municipality in the La Mancha Conquense district, in the province of Cuenca, with 125 inhabitants, situated at the foot of the Castillejo hill, where remains of an old fortress survive, and crossed by the río Rus, which flows into the Záncara, which in turn flows into the Guadiana. Its parish church of the Assumption, enlarged in the 16th century, is a freestanding three-nave temple with chapels, a tower and a semicircular apse, and on the La Carrasquilla hill stands the sanctuary of the Virgen del Trascastillo, also from the 16th century, to which the image is carried in procession every year after the patron saint festivity, around 7 September, coinciding with the Nativity of Our Lady.
