What to see and do in La Joyosa

La Joyosa
Village
La Joyosa is a municipality in the Ribera Alta del Ebro, 20 km from Zaragoza, made up of two settlements, La Joyosa and Marlofa, which grew out of two estates of the old barony, with 1,156 inhabitants in an irrigated market-garden area within the Zaragoza metropolitan area. Called Pinillo in the Middle Ages, it belonged to the monastery of Veruela until the 15th century, when it passed to secular lordship as the seat of the Barony created in 1425 for the Ferrera family, later passing to the Belvis family and, from 1838, to the López Quílez family; its own town council dates from 1834. The present name, documented as Joyosa from the 16th century and as La Joyosa from 1646, is attributed to one of the Cid's swords. It preserves the baron's palace and the parish church of Our Lady of Puig.
